New ECPE Speaking Test effective June 2009

In September 2005 the Testing and Certification Division of the English Language Institute (ELI-UM) began a major revision of the Interactive Oral Communication Section of the Examination for the Certificate of Proficiency in English (ECPE). The content and structure of the new ECPE Speaking Test allows candidates to demonstrate the full range of their speaking ability while performing a multi-stage, semistructured task.

Throughout 2008 ELI-UM will present and explain the new speaking test at centers and conferences worldwide. The format of the test, the evaluation criteria, and expectations of candidate performance will be described at these sessions, and the full scoring rubric will be distributed. In early 2009, ELI-UM will begin working with examiners and distributing the ECPE Examiner's Manual for the Speaking Test. This new test will be implemented in the June 2009 administration of the ECPE.
